Windows 7: Malware/Virus/Problems if not start updates

I mentioned the anti-virus because my anti-virus (Norton Security) turns off Windows Defender. I don't know if that affects installation of Windows Defender updates. To my knowledge, there have been very few updates to Windows Defender.

If you're seeing 118 available updates, why aren't you installing them?

Who sayed I don't install that 118 updates?I install all updates and I mark that option with recommended updates to see what is happen with Windows Defender.

I ask something else, what is happens with Windows Defender, I can't install that update to do a copy well with Windows updates.

Sorry about the misunderstanding. I'm not sure what you were saying about those and other updates. Something got lost in the translation.

Has anyone here suggested that you use the standalone installer for this update with the Windows Updater set to Never Check for Updates?

No, I do a fresh install for a few times and the same result.
I don't install anything else, just I start updates and he check for updates after I install them.
Doesn't want to install that update, just Windows Defender I see is with problems.

I have to leave so won't be able to help for several hours.

However, I just went to the Microsoft Update Catalog and it can't find that update KB915597 that's shown in your screen shot.

Hmm, interesting.
But which update is that with Windows Defender?

While I was doing a search on this KB today, I found a blog which mentioned a later signature version than the one in your screen shot. There was no link to the update.

As I mentioned, I use Norton Security and it turns off Windows Defender. Tonight, I went to Windows Defender and turned it on. it said it needed to install an update so I let it do it. It was successful. That update was KB915597 with a later signature than the one in your screen shot. After some research, I suggest that you go here-

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wdsi...-release-notes

and click on Download the latest update. In the subsequent screen, download the appropriate Win 7 update and install it..

Did you run the commands at an elevated command prompt [Administrator]?
  • Click Start.
  • In the search box type cmd.
  • Right-click the cmd icon from the search results under Programs and select Run as administrator.
  • The elevated command prompt window will now open.
