    (VM) Win7 Ultimate 64bit update error 80073712 (KB3068708)

    Hi

I installed a fresh and untouched Win7 Ultimate SP1 Iso in virtualmachine and first did all the updates, around 170+ in total.
The apparently last update KB3068708 is getting an error code 80073712 and I dont seem to get it fixed.
Tried many tutorials like Update troubleshooter, disabling the services, renaming the software distribution folder or removing whats inside download and datastore and the manual update., but nothing worked.

Microsoft site wrote as prequisite for this update: 'April 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 (2919355)', however this update isn't even for Win7...

Found this forum here and registered to maybe find someone who can understand what might be the issue.

    I'm actually running Windows 7 ultimate 64bit (SP1) as a VM.

    Hardware:
    intel i7 4790k @4ghz
    32gig ram
    asus z97a mainbboard
    samsung evo 500gb ssd

    VM Settings:
    8gig ram
    1 core

I did run SFC /SCANNOW and no issue was found, and the zipped CBS folder is 65MB so no idea how to upload it. Maybe only some specific file is needed?

Thankful for any help I might get

Download KB3068708 [to the desktop] from here => Windows6.1-KB3068708-x86.msu. and then double-click to install it.

If that doesn't work then try running the update using wusa!

    wusa - Overview

wusa must be run from an elevated command prompt:
    • Click Start.
    • In the search box type cmd.
    • Right-click the cmd icon from the search results under Programs and select Run as administrator.
    • The elevated command prompt window will now open.
    wusa - Install Update

You must use the full path of the .msu file. For example, if the .msu file is in the C:\Downloads folder, type one of the following commands at the elevated command prompt to install the update [if you downloaded the file to the desktop then obviously change the directory to the desktop]:

wusa.exe C:\Downloads\Windows6.0-KB3068708-x64.msu [yes, there is one space there]. Press Enter.

    I hope this helps!

    Hi

The result is negative but unexpected. Starting CMD as admin and running wusa on the update resulted in the message that this update was already installed. I was very surprised, did check again for updates and this update is still missing (see screenshot)
Im considering removing the SoftwareDistribution folder since the old 'original' one i still have, just renamed with an .old 'extension'.

Is there another way that I can submit some log that someone can look into it?
I'm adding the log files from the CBS folder without the cab-files since they are too big to be uploaded here, maybe that can help.

    Thanks!

    Hi batou069,

Lets start with this comment - this KB is purely for Telemetry purposes it does not contain any real fix's.

I would uninstall it - then when it re-appears use the hide option

    use wusa /uninstall /kb:3068708

    logs

Avast has many error entries way above the normal 8
Uninstall it for the moment use THIER tool in SAFE MODE

a number of the errors found after you ran SURT contain entries for the KB
so please rerun that tool AFTER uninstalling and rebooting

post the new logs should be a lot smaller

please note running W7 even in a VM requires a seperate product key.

Having said all the the above and as its a VM it might be easier and quicker to follow this link

Update your Win 7 installation media.
