Hi ADC,
If I understand you correctly, once you have all the updates installed you need to make a system image.
This way, if things go wrong in the future, you will be able to restore your OS back to the exact same state that it was when the system image was made in a very short time. There are two imaging programs which are very popular among members here, the first is AOMEI Backupper Standard [FREE], and the second is Macrium Reflect [FREE].
I hope this helps!
Again, instead of installing KB3020369, install KB3177467 instead as 3177467 supersedes 3020369
Hi erpster4,
Just to be clear...
[1] Are you saying that you need to install KB3177467 [Servicing Stack Update - October 2018] instead of KB3020369 [Servicing Stack Update - April 2015] and that the Convenience Rollup Package [KB3125574 - May2016] will still install correctly afterwards?
I only ask because when I tested this when KB3177467 first came out, once installed, it wouldn't install the Convenience Rollup Package!
[2] Updates KB3172605 [Functional Update Rollup] and KB3179573 [Functional Update Rollup - August2016] still need to be installed after the Convenience Rollup Package [KB3125574 - May 2016] is installed?
I used DISM++ as instructed and everything seems to be working just right.
Just for the record, I already had the KB3020369 installed as it was a prerequisite for the 2016 Rollup. Apparently, DISM++ took notice of it and marked only the necessary updates according to my system situation.
Again, I'd like to thank you all for your input and support. Great forum!
Not a bug! DISM++ works somewhat differently than Win Update, search engines, etc. I was already aware of what you are now aware of with my question!
BTW: DISM++ doesn't offer you superseded updates as WU does, as well as color coding and notifications of problematic updates.
Ah, I see.
After 2 DISM++ passes, I loaded WU and it found some updates, and 2 new drivers for my LAN and video. Since I'm using (for now) only the native drivers, is it recommended to update them too?
And as a side note, after the updates, Windows loading became considerably slower than before, but I think it was expected.
