Hi Nic,

Okay this sounds like a huge project for me (did I mention I'm old ) .
This is something that will need my FULL attention.

I will have to wait until next week as my daughter & her husband came in from
Nashville for the weekend; that plus 5 dogs has my house pretty much in turmoil.

I also go back to the Orthopedic doctor on my leg Monday.
I realize all of this is TMI but didn't want you to think I just bailed on you.

Btw, I found my Product key (5 Sets of 5 numbers each)on the bottom of my
Laptop & took a picture of it with my phone camera so I'm good to go on that part.

Thank you so much for all you've done.

Jenn, not huge project,

Repair Install is a piece of cake actually, you download the ISO, open it to your desktop with 7-zip, find setup.exe, double-click it, follow the prompts and when you get to it, of the two choices you want Inplace Upgrade
All your files are saved just windows is replaced with a fully-working copy & a backup copy created automatically!
Then you use DISM++ to install current relevant updates (not a plethora of ones that have been superseded as Win Update does) and it orange highlights the reported problematic ones, you can then pick and choose.

Hey Nic,

Hope you had a good weekend & week, sorry I'm just now getting to this.
I will probably try this tonight.

One thing I wanted to clarify with you before I start ....

Is this saying "I DON'T HAVE TO DO" a full back up before I attempt it.
I would really hate losing my stuff.

The guy that did my Windows reinstall in 2017 screwed some of my saved things
up and I would sure hate to straighten that mess out again.
I think I could have done as good a job as he did with a little guidance.

My Hard Drive space all came on only my C: drive with no partition except for a Recovery (HP I think)
I created a separate little storage area off of the C: drive to keep all my miscellaneous stuff in.
Just wanted to make sure that file WILL NOT disappear. (attached screenshot).

Thanks for your patience in helping me
I know just enough about all of this to really screw things up.

Jenn

The backup you create with the Default Repair Install Backup is on the same drive as your os, same partition.

I always, as a safety/security conscientious individual, always recommend a full drive image/backup to an external drive, minimum USB best HDD AOMEI is a good beginner 3rd party backup program which you should be able to master easily. Yes good video & I use it too!
