is windows 7 still releasing updates I heard only upstream only I put W7 on a desktop and the update after service pk seems to say retry just keep trying or am I missing something

Hello gordie,

Which .iso are you using to install Windows 7? Some updates require at least service pack 1 before they become available to the user. Also, the Servicing Stack used by Windows Update itself needs updating, before Windows Update becomes usable. The Servicing Stack update is available from Microsoft Update Catalog.

[1] What installation media did you use for the install?
[2] Where did you get the installation media [ISO/DVD/USB] from?
[3] Is the installation media SP1?
