Security Monthly Quality Rollup failing. All failed since March 2018

    Hi Guys,

First thread here but i have seen people being helped by other users of the forum.

I keep having my Security Monthly Quality Rollup failed. Have done for months when i try to update. Checking back, they have failed since March last year. Some other updates have installed fine but just these fail.

The fail code for the most recent Rollup is: 8024200D

Now i have read some of the threads around the internet, but feel i need some specific guidance on my own PC. Can someone help me please? I feel like it is causing issues with my PC like my RAM being overused on things like "svchost.exe (netsvcs)" or "svchost.exe (LocalSystemNetworkRestricted)". My CPU is being used heavily by "TrustedInstaller.exe" also and i feel that doing all needed updates should help stop these from hoarding all my CPU and RAM for themselves and causing my laptop to be slow to load things. Ram usage is almost half just due to these 2 processes without me loading a game i play or google chrome. Maybe they wont and there is a separate solution for this but i definitely would like the updates to actually install correctly so i can feel safe and up to date.

I am not a computer master but i sure know how to do what i am told and can do most things confidently if i am instructed correctly so fire away with solutions. Please don't leave this thread without a reply though as I am desperate to get it fixed.

I appreciate everyone who takes the time to help me out and will do my best to give you all the information you need to help me!

Looking for Snick to read this (as ive seen he can be very useful) so if someone can tag him as well that would be awesome!

    Thanks again in advance!

Thanks for the welcome, Snick! I was hoping you'd see this as i saw you've helped a lady with a very similar issue recently!

So i done one of those earlier after posting so i didn't have to re do one now (it got stuck at the end and i was worried it wouldn't work!). Previous to this scan i read one of the CBS logs (most recent of today) after reading through the other thread i read, and i saw some failed stuff which is never good! So there is definitely something wrong there.

I'm so surprised to see how many people are having the same kind of issues! I'm thankful to have found this forum!

I cant upload my .zip file of the whole CBS. I think my browser is timing out on upload (i'm probably getting less than 1mb/s upload as it says the zip is only like 37.3mb). Any other way i can do this? I just tried something like FileBin but it failed straight away. Once again probably due to the crap upload speed.

Thanks for getting back so quick man you are a legend!

Yea i did, i picked the "AVG Anti-virus FREE" option which is what i had i'm pretty sure. Should i run it for the other 2 options aswell? Also i got the microsoft security essentials downloaded and updated now so im slightly protected so i hope that doesnt cause any issues after this! Anything for free that is better and you recommend maybe?

Hope your having a good weekend!

Here's what we did so far:

    1. Ran SURT to identify issues and many were corrected.
    2. Remaining issues were/are AVG related, so...
    3. we removed AVG through Windows uninstall
    4. reboot
    5. then ran AVG specific tool AVG_Clear
    6. reboot
    7. Run SURT to determine if reg keys remain and posted logs.
    8. keys remain

Is this what you recall you did to this point?
#6 is important for CheckSUR logs

I'm working on a reg fix for the key errors.
    Download FRSTx64
    save to your desktop
    run it
copy and paste bold text into FRST searchbox
    click search registry; be patient
post logs that appear on your desktop
    c!policy.14.0..g.vc140; c!avg.vc140.crt; c!avg.vc140.mfc; c!policy.14.0..g.vc140.mfc; c!policy.14.0..g.vc140.crt; c!avg.vc140.mfc
