Updating: Stop While It Still Works?

I am one of those with no intention of submitting to MS and going to Windows 10. I will be staying with W7 indefinitely (I actually use Linux for most online work, the only thing I use Windows for at this point is music creation). I worry that continuing to update W7 once a month (I only do the security updates) will at some point really break my system, whether through MS's lack of concern for W7, or worse yet, intentionally, as a way to push us a bit harder into accepting W10.

Am I right? Should I just stop and call it good, and just use a good AV, along with smart online behavior? Or should I risk upsetting the apple cart and keep updating, until the final round of updates? I also manage my wife's laptop, so this has extra meaning, in that she gets very upset when the darn thing doesn't work right, and I must bear the brunt of her anger.

The best solution is to create backup images on a regular basis and update then should there be any problems you can role back

I agree with what samuria has suggested above. This way, if things go wrong in the future, you will be able to restore your OS back to the exact same state that it was when the system image was made in a very short time. There are two imaging programs which are very popular among members here, the first is AOMEI Backupper Standard [FREE], and the second is Macrium Reflect [FREE].

I hope this helps!
