    Is "windows update" the only way to get latest updates for win7 x64

    Dell E6440 laptop, Win7 x64 P OEM

    Fresh install from CD late 2018.

    Updates were working for a while, until started getting "Windows Update error 8024402C"
    It knows what updates are available & I see all the details, but it just cant download.

    IE stopped working as about same time as well(I don't use it anyway)

    Looked at getting the tool "System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64", being 538.6M I have to decline for now. (live in rural area, 3G internet lucky to get 100kbps, typical is 25~ 60)

    Q. Are updates available for download without using Windows Update service.
    (I can use the Windows Update to check importance of update)

    I'm sure I used to download XP updates from direct download links.

    Hi oleCodger,

    Yes, try DISM++
    DISM++ Website Link
    Download Dism++ x86/x64/ARM64 Direct Download
    Dism++ Documentation

    If you're not on a metered connection you could download SURT overnight.
    Here's a link to my OneDrive AutoSURTx64. It runs SURT and places your CBS folder on your desktop. You can delete the .cab folders, then zip it and upload.
    For now, if you would zip your CBS.log, Windowsupdate.log in one zipped folder & upload that I can take a look.
    CBS.log location: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\
    WindowsUpdate.log location: C:\Windows\

    If you have a Win7 ISO or DVD you could consider a Repair Install.
    Here's an excellent video by Brian at Britec Computers, UK
    Repair Install Fix Windows 7 Without Reformatting
    Available Win7x64 ISO is 3.1 GB!

    Thanks Snick, having a look... that will take me some time to get my head around.

    I found this...

    Whenever I try to update, I get Error 80072ee2 - nothing will fix it. - Microsoft Community

    Although I don't fully agree with the low connection bandwidth part (the following is from my log file)...

    WARNING: WinHttp: SendRequestUsingProxy failed for <http://ds.download.windowsupdate.com/v11/2/windowsupdate/redir/v6-win7sp1-wuredir.cab>. error 0x8024402c

    This could be my problem (I also have USB 3G telstra modem, my tower is k's away). I'll change over to wifi 3G/4G modem see wot happens.
    MSE has no problems keeping updated & win updates were working previous same connection.

    dism++ has the benefit of comprehensiveness as it does a lot more than just windows updates

    wumt has the benefit of simplicity as it does nothing except windows updates
    Download Windows Update MiniTool - MajorGeeks

    Hi there,

    You can use direct download at: Microsoft Update Catalog too. Just type in search bar for exemple "Windows 7 x 64" will list all of the updates available, you can also sort them by date.
