"This computer is not running genuine Windows" BS

Recently, I got a notification to update with this update KB447419. The SHA2 update. I thought it was odd because this update was discussed on the forms here back early of the year, (around April?), and I only got notification to update 11 days ago.

Anyway, this was the most recent update I did and it was running fine until yesterday when my desktop went to a black screen background with the icon in the bottom left corner saying I was not genuine.. (which led me here).

This was an update that is now showing after I did a system restore to solve my 'not genuine' issue... it is suggested I download it again.

I wonder if this update has anything to do with your (and my soon again to be my) issue.

This is a bit trickier than i first expected

Open Regedit
Navigate to
HKCR\TypeLib\{565783C6-CB41-11D1-8B02-00600806D9B6}

Right-click on the Key in the left pane, and select Permissions
Click on the Advanced button
Click on the Owner tab
Highlight Administrators, and put a tick in the 'Replace owner on...' box
Click Apply
(Current Owner should change to Administrators)
Click OK - ONCE
Click on the Permissions tab
In the Permission entries box, highlight Administrators
click Edit
put a tick in the Allow /Full Control box (all the other Allow boxes should automatically be ticked)
put a tick in the 'Apply these permissions....' box
Click OK out to Regedit
Close Regedit
Open an Elevated Command Prompt
run the following command

C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\regtlibv12.exe C:\Windows\system32\wbem\wbemdisp.tlb

Close the Command prompt if successful - otherwise post the results.
Open Notepad
copy and paste the following into the Notepad window, and save to the desktop as TEST.VBS

Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:\\.\root\cimv2")
Set colComputers = objWMIService.ExecQuery("Select * from Win32_ComputerSystem")
wscript.echo "Test Passed"

now double-click on the new file - you should get a small popup window saying 'Test Passed'
If you get anything else, copy and paste the message to your reply.


Now reboot and run a new MGADiag report and post the results

Because if I install it (the KB ) again, and as mentioned.. it was the only thing I did recently around the exact same time you had your issue with your pc on the same topic.. then I might run into the same problem.

There is nothing else I did within a month on the pc.
All of a sudden out of years of use.. I get this issue.

Honestly the first thing I would have done if I were you ( as I did with mine ) was go back to a system restore point and see if that fixed your issue. My restore point was before that KB install.


If I have another issue after I do this KB install, as one mentioned that MS rolls out the same KB every month, then I will just re-install windows again. 'faux' or not.

Question regarding some requests in here.. and I don't mean to troll. Is there a way to get help from you guys by 'post your results' in a more private way instead a copy and paste to a public form that anyone can simply sign up to and view?

Not to be paranoid but I wouldn't be just posting partial cd keys etc as I have read in the OP's ' results '.

You can edit your result to erase that out and put (My CD KEY HERE) etc instead of xxxxx-xxxxx-ABCDE-FGHIJ_KLMNO. and so on.

Not that it matters much, but if you want to see results as 'still shows 0x0 ' then could you be more specific?

Because, I will just re-install windows if I run into this issue again because I simply don't see a way to send private messages here for your requested results.


It also seems you guys are at a guessing point right now. No disrespect but I have no idea who you are. I don't know what your credentials are.. are you part of Microsoft? or just an experienced user taking educated guesses? (which I respect....)

been doing mgadiag analysis for years.

NOTHING in them creates a security issue, or produces/shows personal data, you do know its an MS tool!!.

There is an option to PM and keep any reply which creates data of the grid, and yes if you dont want to run/post results from a requests its up to you, (your loss and its happened last week from another user).
PPS there is a requirement for X posts to be made before this option is available

As for 0x0, im not a computer- VERY IMPORTANT, usually means everything seemss a OK, but there could still be a problem
Prime example of this is the use of an activation exploit - it fools MS but NOT me
(currently providing this within a BleepingCompters thread)

And why would you want to to erase data thats possibly causing a problem.!!!

( I've got all of them in + others in my docs files for reference)
