    Updating Problem

Microsoft Security Essentials for some reason will not update now after doing so for some time in the past. I am on Windows 7 IE 11 and unfortunately it has stopped suddenly.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled MSE in the hopes this would help but no luck. I also tried Bitdefender but it wouldn't download either. It's very important I get this MSE problem corrected as soon as possible and would very much appreciate your help. Thanks, Bert01

***Here is more information, I since discovered it seems no other downloads will complete either since my top post. So it's downloads and/or updates both that don't complete successfully. Thanks again, B.

    Hi Bert,

Windows Upates and MSE updates work independently of each other.

As you cant download Bitdefender as well it might be that your machine has been compromised
Odd that you can uninstall/reinstall MSE tho.

Can you perform a scan with this Online AV

    https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...Zlf7O-aRc0NW7c

Please note after Jan 2020 = MSE & IE11 will NOT be updated
    time to get replacements

Burn this boot media to cd or extract to usb using usb7ice.
    17514x86.iso
    17514x64v15.iso
    Usb7ice.zip
Boot the media, then try running the included ESET antivirus

Alternatively, you could try the sysrescue live eset downloadable media
    ESET SysRescue | ESET

You will need some way of downloading them, obviously.

However, it might not be malware. Did you try a system restore to point before you had the problem?

Roy, Sorry for the delay, (out of town).Don't have another computer. No luck on Farbar Recovery Scan Tool either. Seems like whatever I try to download it won't finish any download. Also, is it necessary to uninstall Microsoft Security Essentials to install FRST? I'm not to bright on computers unfortunately. Thanks for your help, B01.

    Hi Bert

    Arrrgh thats annoying.
NO you do not need to uninstall MSE, it might flag it tho, just allow it to run
system specs showing Avira - is this correct

Can you try using Safe mode with Networking, to run it.
power on keep hitting F8 straight away

Wouldn't hurt to run ESET on-line scan as well, still under safe mode - but dissable MSE/Avira during the scan
