The page for KB3125574 lists the hotfixes that were not included. KB2775511 is not in that list.

Yes I saw that KB2775511 is not on the excluded update list for the Convenience Rollup.

That said, kb2775511 is a hotfix rollup. There are 89 hotfixes compiled in it, so many were not even included in windows update (this unlike the updates in the convenience rollup update pack).

I'm guessing the only way to be sure if any of those 89 hotfix's in kb2775511 are actually included in the kb3125574 convenience rollup would be if anyone actually had an accurate list of what's in kb3125574.

All these third party links below purport to list what is contained in kb3125574 (supposedly replacing 120+ updates). But if you compare them, each list doesn't really match up. So what's really in the Convenience Rollup? Did MS ever publish what it contains (as opposed to what it doesn't)?

And the KB for 2775511 includes a list of its files and versions. If you have the time and patience you could compare the two (or maybe get Excel to do it for you).

Yes, @Bree. Believe it or not I did fully read the KB for the Hotfix Rollup & the Convenience Rollup before posting my thread question. My guess is you didn't happen open that .csv file before suggesting it as a verifiable solution, but thanks anyhow.

If you had, you would have noticed that what's on the 240,598 spreadsheet rows of that .csv is nothing but file names (.dll's and other file references). But there isn't one single KB number for all that is shown. This unlike the KB info sheet for the Enterprise Hotfix rollup.

So after poking around some more, I did find the answer and it was quite surprising on several fronts.

Turns out all you have to do to find the contents of the Convenience Rollup is look it up in the update catalog. After selecting one of the update title links select package details in the popup that appears. You'll find a window titled "this update replaces the following updates." Microsoft Update Catalog

Listed there are what's contained in the particular Convenience Rollup you selected (either w7x86, w7x64, or s2k8r2). And yes, there are 120+ updates listed.

Interesting is that after a quick comparison, ONLY TWO of the 89 hotfix's shown included in kb2775511 Mar-2013 Enterprise hotfix rollup ARE ACTUALY IN kb3125574 Apr-2016 Convenience Update Rollup. And only one of those two are part of both the s2k8r2 & w7x64 Convenience Update. The other is only in the server update.

This is in direct contradiction to what Microsoft employee Michael Niehaus post in the comments found near the end of this May 17, 2016 TechNet article by Nathan Spencer (also a Msft. employee) on the Convenience Rollup: https://web.archive.org/web/20180331084217/https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/windowsitpro/2016/05/17/simplifying-updates-for-windows-7-and-8-1/

Also noteworthy is while each of the Convenience updates for s2k8r2 & w7x64 show a similar file size, they contain a slightly different number of updates & a few of the updates in the s2k8r2 Convenience Rollup are not included in w7x64 Convenience Rollup and vice versa.

And lastly, if your updating your install with SIMPLIX, your not getting the Enterprise Hotfix Rollup or the 89 hotfixes that come with it either. All you get is the one or two hotfixes that are part of the Convenience Rollup. The rest are surprisingly absent.

If you plan to install the hotfix rollup, make sure your also installing the 3 post-requisite updates and 2 registry update files referenced in the KB article that accompany it. Most were discontinued by MS in 11/18 when they retired their hotfix service. But luckily a few can still be found by KB in the update catalog. The rest are downloadable thru the kind folks at The Hotfix Share
