Ok, so wrong disc, wrong coa. So can you reccomend the best place to get win 7 retail.
Ebay?
I think I know what the problem is.
A few months ago I bought a win 7 home prem iso off ebay.
What's the betting this is hot as hell and started alarm bels ringing at microsoft.
I should have known better than to buy from ebay with the amount of duff dvd's I've refunded for.
Hells bells, I guess I'm on a ms hit list now.
Right, I'm going to have to use Lynux until I get a retail copy of 7.

You most likely purchased an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) copy of Win7! There are no Retail Win7 keys available to my knowledge!
Unless you own say an HP Hewlett Packard & have an OEM Win7 for that manufacturer, it won't work. The bios contains a slic table which is utilized for verifying the Win7 OEM install.
The only way that I know of to obtain one would be from a computer running a retail Win7 copy that will not be used any more. 1 license, 1 key, and M$ has to verify the key matches. Or from someone with a Retail Win7 DVD that is no longer using the computer it was installed on.
If you do manage to locate such a computer, you can obtain the key with Magic Jellybean, BelArc Advisor or a small VBS script that converts the hexadecimal key as it is stored on a computer, to Alphanumeric.
What Is a SLIC BIOS Entry?
How to get Windows Product Key from DigitalProductId
KeyFinder | Magical Jelly Bean
Belarc Advisor
Find Windows Product Key.vbs
If I were you, I would contact E-Bay customer service, explain what happened & ask if you could return the DVD if that is how you obtained it!
Wishing you the best of luck!

Hello Snick and thanks for your help.
Ah yes it could be an oem iso, I didn't think of that.
So a coa is a coa is a coa, as far as a retail disc is concerned?
If I bought a genuine retail 7 disc (not an iso), and had a coa for a oem machine, then it should work?
The absolutely stupid thing is, I had a retail disc about a year ago, and sold it for silly money; almost gave it away as I didn't know why I would need it. Well we live and learn, and thank you for the education.
A Certificate of Authenticity (COA) is a string of characters -- alpha, numeric, or alpha-numeric -- which coincides with a particular software product installed on your computer
Do you have factory reset?
Did you format the drive?
Why pay for what you can get for free! I like free!
We provide free help here! I'm always $$$ conscious!
According to Microsoft OEM key is supposed to activate Win7 ISO
Can an OEM licence key be used to activate a retail disc installation ...
