What can I do to prepare my Win computer to accept new/latest updates?

I stopped getting successful Win7 updates in 2019 -- checking update history I see that since then almost all have failed. This has never been an urgent issue for me as I've always used Bitdefender to keep me safe. But I see now that there have been Windows updates available even until very recently. Can I begin using these updates and install them on top of what has been a spotty history of updates? If yes, at what point in the long line of recent updates should I begin? Begin with the most recent? Or do I need to in some way prepare Windows to accept these recent updates? Thanks.

    your PC couldn't go update?
or you won't run Windows update?

If your PC couldn't go update, you can try to put Win7 install media onto your PC ROM, then run upgrade when pop-up.

If you haven't used Windows Update since February 2019 or earlier, KB4490628 is missing. KB4490628 missing causes failure of updates released August 2019 or later. Failure of important updates causes them to be offered over and over, which in turn causes KB4490628 not to be offered.

Actually, 23.2.15 is the most current version of Simplix Update Pack - for a few more days.

Thanks, but I've been unable to download that update -- no clickable link available. Am I missing something?

With all due respect, the "big sign download" you've linked is not the latest update pack 23.2.15 -- the one I was referring to. I still see no download link for that one.

The latest update is always available directly from the Simplix site. Note this a Ukrainian site, so best to visit it with Google Chrome or a similar browser that will offer to translate everything from Russian to English.

That aside, I'm kind of the outlier here: I don't want any updates. I still use Win 7 as my main computer, but stopped updating it in Jan 2018, when the Spectre/Meltdown debacle hit the fan. By then I had come to the conclusion that between the potential but minor risk of a hacker exploiting my Win 7 and the very real risk of Microsoft trashing my computer with their flakey updates, I considered Microsoft to be the greater threat.

I know many others who came to the same conclusion, yet I know of no one with Win 7 who has regretted that decision, while complaints about updates trashing Win 10/11 computers have become commonplace.

Still, Simplix has acquired a pretty solid reputation for reliability, so I won't argue with anyone who wants to update with Simplix.
