windows 7/64 (7000) , mandriva 2009.0/64

yeah while browsing about an issue (kinda "false positive" non-genuine copy of Win7 thing; see the thread I started here), I found an incredible amount of sites offering patches to either remove the watermark, or worse: extend the 30 days trial period when Win7 is not activated. This is the most stupid thing I've ever seen: considering that the beta and RC are free, that it's gonna still take months before they expire, that anyone can get the key and activate (as if 30 days for hardware change was not enough ) Oh I forgot those who intend to have a mobo upgrade 31 days after OS install day , they're legions...

Not only is that all very stupid, but it also means, as already mentioned in this thread, that some system files you'll be using have been edited by someone else. And yes, then people come complain about their system being hacked, infected, whatever...they go to security software forums and ask for help there, without mentioning what they did of course...

Windows 10 Pro x64 x3, Ubuntu

Yes it's so often the case that the weak link in any system security is the one between the chair and the keyboard

I often get calls from users who "haven't done anything" and then half an hour or so into the fix remember that they did download this thing to "make something better"

As stated in many of the post above, the idea of 'cracking' a BETA version of windows just to remove the watermark is absurd. Why use 3rd party software to activate Windows 7 when the keys that Microsoft handed out with build 7000 work perfectly well & allow 100% activation. I also quite like the 'Evaluation' watermark, makes me feel like a real BETA tester LOL

Error 0x8004fe22: "Copy of Windows not genuine"
I've read a few threads, running CHKDSK C: /R and SFC /SCANNOW as suggested for other issues. No errors stuck their heads up. I ran some other things that I'm honestly too tired to remember but even when it seemed the validation was fixed it would come back. Even now when the poppup occurs, in my...

Cloned disk results in msg "This copy of windows is not genuine"
Hi, I have a two-week old, custom built desktop with a genuine OEM version of Windows 7, operating Office 2010. The 'system' sits on an internal SSD and all my documents and files sit on a separate internal disk. One aspect of my backup and recovery strategy is to create a clone of both disks...

Rcvd: "This copy of Windows not genuine" w/o initiating anything
I purchased my laptop from a pawnshop about 6 months ago. The gentlemen stated that he had his IT Tech wipe the laptop then load it with Windows 7 Ultimate. Since I purchased it from a pawnshop, the laptop only came with a power supply. This past Wednesday I was working on various documents then...

I get the error message "Copy of Windows not genuine" after I recovered my windows installation. I have a perfectly legit copy and it has been activated (and worked fine) before on the same pc. I ran chkdsk and it seemed to be fine. I also ran sfc/scannow. - It said it found corrupted...

"Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine" Not TTS Error
I've been getting the infamous Build 7601 error every now and then for a few weeks. Normally rebooting solves it, but it seems to have become resistant to that strategy. After running tool MGADiag tool everything seems to be in order. The product key matches the one printed on the laptop. ...
