    Possible to Ignore Important Updates?

I'm wondering if it is possible to ignore an important windows update? Windows Defender updates are listed as important updates but I have my own security suite and therefore don't need to burn a few megs every month to update Windows Defender. I also have a netbook with very limited hard drive space that keeps bugging me to install that update that checks if my version of Windows 7 is genuine. I know it is and don't want to take up valuable and limited hard drive space for Microsoft to tell me what I already know. I would like to set Windows Update some how so that it doesn't keep bugging me to install these important updates, is that possible?

Not necessary to install the defender updates. Those updates represent new malware that has been written. If you do not install, you may become infected with the malware.

Bottom line you reallyshould install, but to answer your question you do not have to.

You can hide all updates that are not wanted. just right click on the update to hide

Hi, go to Control Panel/Windows Update and top left Change Settings, and you have some options in there.

do yourself a favor and simply disable windows defender all together. while your at it set windows update to never check for updates. do a manual update the second wednesday of every month, the day after microsoft has released any updates.

But yes if you go to the updtaes individually and right click on them you can select hide and winodows will never bother you for that specific update again. However new updates will still be shown.

it is still better not to have windows update go online automatically. with the exception of a couple of programs i do no allow anything to auto connect to the internet.

pros and cons to both. Depends on the user and the situation. Can't say it's always best to leave automatic updates off.

Mine is set to notify. I download and install. For me that is the best way.

Right. I read monkey's post as completely disabled although he could have meant this.

For the OP I beleive this would be the best as they can hide the ones that are currently availible and this setting would prevent future ones from automatically being intalled allowing him the chance to hide them.
