It's almost like a company motto except we all know who the company is!

Besides 7 anything beta as a rule can be a real headache at times depending on circumstance. For a beta like Windows one person's hardware combo is slightly off from the next and ends up seeing a new problem needing to be fixed. "patch please! now " "we'll get right on as soon as we can! "

"Another crank? Frank tell'em 6yrs from now that is!" Beta speaking!

The same keys that worked on the 7000s have been working on the newer builds as well. You can ask several around here on that one. Since the install has been on for some time however something may have clocked it one without you realizing it.

The most common cause is a simple hardware swap effecting the profile taken when 7 was installed. If you saw any updates go on in the last few days for any hardware or addon device that may something to consider as well.

You can still request the beta keys from microsoft. If you dearch their site for 'Windows 7' you will find the beta pages are still offering keys.

One for each being the 32bit and another for the 64bit are still shown on the download page once you go to the 7 home page seen at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/ At the lower right simply click on the ...

this is also happening to people who use the plus patch, as ms seems to have tossed in something to detect the earlier versions up to 1.02, guess orbit will need to work around that :P

The failed updates seen here on the 7000 32bit build were from 3/10 to 3/13. Except for the latest defender update that just went well on the second attempt everything before and after for updates all went on without problems. The Plus Patch on the other hand is a 3rd party download you can get for the WL messenger at Plus!Patch - Windows Live Messenger Skin

The Plus patch referred to in the above post from orbit 30 and was designed to remove the watermark send feedback and permanent activation and is know to cause lots of side effects one being failed updates.

Permanent activation sounds like something else known as TimerNuker I came across on one of the torrent sites. That would be another thing you might have problems iwth as well.

In other news the 64bit 7000 finally produced a prompt earlier when booting into it to see the drivers for a new addon would work there. The XP/Vista drivers being 32bit were doubtful and saw problems going on at first for the 32bit 7000.

When first starting up the 64bit 7 the "you must activate..." was finally seen out of nowhere! Hopefully I can finally locate some 64bit drivers for the new cable modem once the account is activated itself for internet can be found somewhere?

The move up from old dsl to newer cable to still not see 64bit support in order to see the 64bit 7 finally activated! "that can't be!" Hopefully once the new account is running the other cable router will work as a sub to the modem the cable company provides. "I want my 64bit internet! "
