Thanks for the link Colonel, that's the best explanation yet of the new WAT. I now have a firm understanding of it. I did Install the update because I wanted to make sure that my copy and key was legit because I purchased my copy through a "non-official" retailer. But thankfully it checked out fine. I see many opinions on here as to whether to install the tool or try to uninstall it after installing it...so I am still unsure as to what I'm going to do yet..I'm with most on here that I don't like the Idea of me having no control over it....but regardless..its a very interesting subject.
I have decided to leave it installed. Without uninstalling it, you can disable the service and then it won't run or you can edit the settings in Task Scheduler and make it phone home in six months or in one year. I did play with that a little bit.

In Bott's column today he said he uninstalled KB971033 through CP, piece of cake.
He's got the most lengthy description I've read so far about what the update actually does.
Yes indeed, a great read there. Repped Colonel :)

No; it was strictly voluntary and now it is no longer on the update site.

I know Microsoft is working hard at pirating, but do you really think that anyone who knows theirs is faked will isntall this update?

LOL. Not likely; I wouldn't. My own uninformed opinion is that this was a test of the market by MS to gauge consumer reaction to the idea and maybe to test the results of WAT.
