Hmm, if WAT is run by a service, I wonder what happens if it is disabled?

I had the same thought. From what someone posted previously, the service is set to manual by default. The person also posted a screen shot of the triggers in Task Scheduler.

Can anyone else who installed all of the updates (including the Activation one) confirm the presence of a new service called WatAdminSvc.exe? After updating Windows with all of the available updates this morning, WinPatrol starting barking about WatAdminSvc.exe, but there's no plus info about it, and I can't find anything very reliable on google. I'm concerned that Windows Update might've been hijacked, seeing as we weren't expecting an out-of-band update release. :/

Yeah, it does install a new service. No Winpatrol Plus info because it's a new service, it doesn't know about it yet.

Thanks for the info! So this is a legit install? Should I be worried about it?

Is this new service something that's going to bog down my system? It looks like, from the link you posted, that it will launch every time my computer starts up, and every time I launch any application! :O I don't need any more programs running. I like to keep my system lean.

Of course. perfectly safe/legit. It's not going to bog your system down, doesn't launch in the sense of an application, not going to start up every time you launch an application. Just one other service among the dozens of others already there.
