Frostmourne,
That only means that we do not own the rights to the OS as a whole. A license does mean that I or anyone who buys it does own the copy that they possess. If that were not true, then we would be required to pay rent on it.That sounds right. The OS isn't yours anyway, its licensed.
Is this update supposed to show up in windows update? Cause I check daily and it still hasn't appeared..
I meant, I click on check for updates and no new updates show up other than the optional language packages so far..
Latest update that became available to me was
Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 for x64-based Systems (KB973688) on 2/26
I'm not sure about that. I decided to bite the bullet and install it. Promptly, my sound went out and Windows could not diagnose the problem. I am NOT saying WAT caused this; I don't know what the cause was. I restored to a point four days ago. All is functioning well. Windows update tells me KB971033 is waiting for download. I did not find anything in services to indicate it is installed.
I'll take your word for it, because I have no desire to experiment with it. However, it should be noted that a System Restore is not the same as uninstalling an update. You are fortunate that the problem occurred right away, instead of a month or year down the road, when it would be easier to reinstall the OS, rather than deal with the consequences of a restore...if your list of restore points went back far enough.
