How to upgrade Microsoft Security Essentials to the latest version

    CHANGES IN LATEST VERSION
The latest version of Microsoft Security Essentials includes improved messaging on the Update tab, improved scan reports on the Home tab, performance improvements, and enforcement of runtime Windows Activation Technology (WAT) in Microsoft Security Essentials.
That does not make sense to me; a lot of Seven users don't run MSE.

As of today the WAT update has re-appeared back in my hidden updates after being removed for a few weeks...

It finally got me, today I had to download XP mode from Microsoft, in order to give me the download link it forced me to download and run the WAT (before that it never appeared in my windows update, I installed my windows yesterday btw)

Anyhow, I passed the test and I don't feel any difference in performance yet, the WAT doesn't even appear in my installed programs.

Very interesting that it reappeared and it seems to have appeared to more folks than it did the first time. I wonder what, if anything, has changed.

Same thing happened to me a few days ago.

Did you look in View installed updates and look under Microsoft Windows?

I'm not sure about that. I decided to bite the bullet and install it. Promptly, my sound went out and Windows could not diagnose the problem. I am NOT saying WAT caused this; I don't know what the cause was. I restored to a point four days ago. All is functioning well. Windows update tells me KB971033 is waiting for download. I did not find anything in services to indicate it is installed.
Such was not the case with XP's "Windows Genuine Advantage." Once it was installed, that's it, it's going to stay there. Doing a system restore didn't do squat. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same way with this update. You may not see it in services, but I bet it's there in system32 somewhere.

Strictly Windows Seven as far as I know. I have not read anything that indicated otherwise.
And possibly Office, but I'm not sure about that.
