I installed it and uninstalled. The uninstall left no trace of the program in the registry, in Task Scheduler, or in Services. The program files were all gone. The only thing left was an empty folder. I installed it again and all was back.

I wonder if MS withdrew it?
Yes, it was withdrawn from MS updates. So if you have it installed on your machine, it's already obsolete software. That's precisely why I opted out from installing it too. I was gonna' wait and see the negative effects before I installed it. Glad I didn't now.

According to recent posts, it is back in Windows Updates again. I can't check that because I have it installed. This time it is seems to be appearing in other areas besides North America and Australia.

Despite the fact that there are some of this forum's oligarchy that seems to think that this is a good idea, I sometimes think that these members are those with a vested interest in MS, or in software development in general, rather than a typical private user.
I agree. You can also add the ones who had previously pirated software, and have since then gone legit, who like to get up on their soapbox and preach against piracy now. Kinda' like the ex-smoker who now belittles anyone who smokes. Among other reasons.

Well, I don't fit any of those categories. After my bad experiences with WGA, I simply wanted to play with this one and learn about it. I also had a tough time with validation of my original install and I wanted to see if all was well - and it was.

It finally got me, today I had to download XP mode from Microsoft, in order to give me the download link it forced me to download and run the WAT (before that it never appeared in my windows update, I installed my windows yesterday btw)

Anyhow, I passed the test and I don't feel any difference in performance yet, the WAT doesn't even appear in my installed programs.
Did you look in View installed updates and look under Microsoft Windows?
    Not there as well..

It will be interesting to see if / how much this adds to my overclocking time. I tend to install OS's a LOT when I start pushing things. My last attempt to ghost and reinstall with the WAT installed failed. Will give it another go when I push my friend's i920 over 4Ghz. I have it on both my Win7 64 bit machines as does my friend.

I recently reinstalled Win7 from scratch when i got my new SSD.

WAT certainly is in the updates, only is now a "Important" update, not optional. So if your set for Auto update, you may have it without approving it.
    WAT is 971033 isnt it?

Yes, it is 971033. It was an important update the first time, too, as opposed to a critical update.
