I am trying to activate my licence Win 7 onto my new machine but it will not accept it can anybody tell me how to transfer my OEM key from an older machine to my new machine running Win 7 ...asked Microsoft and they said cant be done from there point but will allow me to search web for solution (another key) just as long as I got the software its legal..very strange.

I am hoping some guru out there has the answer because i dont want to pay for another licence.

Thanks to anybody that replies

For OEM licence each key is bound to only one PC (here the old one).If you change computer then you loose OEM licence too,the only legal solution is to buy new product key.

The way it works is there is a marker in the BIOS that the Windows 7 installation looks for. Obviously, a different machine will either have a different marker (another manufacturer) or no marker at all (retail motherboard). The reason you cannot transfer the installation legally is because you're paying a subsidized price; Windows 7 costs you much less because the manufacturer cuts a deal with Microsoft. Essentially, you're paying more for hardware than you are for software.

What you can do legally, however, is replace the parts in your computer (other than the motherboard). Depending on what and how many parts you replace, Windows 7 will tell you that you need to reactivate. Call Microsoft and explain to them that you just upgraded a few computer parts and they'll reactivate it for you.

Sell your old machine and use that money to buy a new license for the new computer.

As the others have pointed out, you are unable to move an OEM copy from one computer to another. Hence the reason that the OEM license was cheaper to buy the first time around. Unfortunately, it's really a matter of buying another copy of Windows and getting a new key to get it installed on your new computer. Sad, but true.
