My son's laptop had the "not genuine win 7" message. Tried the phone activation but it failed saying it may be a pirate copy !
It's not. Bought from Amazon this year.

I have tried a re-image using my back up software as we had a complete image of his C drive. But no change. MS help suggested a tool to provide a diagnostic report. I have pasted it below.

    Any help welcome......

Your Windows Key is from a not-for-resale MSDN account. You need to claim an immediate refund from the vendor - do NOT accept the offer of a new key.(all they are trying to do is to get past the 45-day claims window. or avoid you sending the evidence of their crimes to the authorities)

Please read the following stickies.... .....................

The pirates have got VERY good at this over the past few years, as the price of equipment for manufacturing the packages drops, and as factories open in less well-policed countries.

    Thanks for the reply.

I have just come off the phone to MS in the USA (I assume) and they have confirmed that the product key is not for a copy of Win 7 Home Premium.

Have emailed this information to Amazon UK.

I have to say that I am very surprised as You would think that products from Amazon would be Genuine. It actually came via an Amazon re-seller.

Now a very pissed off Amazon customer !!!

That's the problem. The reseller. Amazon has little to no control over resellers. On the other hand, I've never had a problem with Amazon direct.

I'm afraid it just goes to show, once again, dealing with the Microsoft store direct is the best way to avoid being ripped off.

Is there any way you can report this vendor to Microsoft? I would have thought they could at the very least cancel his MSDN subscription.

    Microsoft AntiPiracy Team.
    also
    piracy@microsoft.com

do NOT expect a response - there are legal reasons why they cannot do anything except a pro-forma automated reply, but every instance is checked, and many are pursued to the point where the vendor is charged and convicted.
