Windows 7: Update issues?

Update issues?

I have a few different issues with the performance of my computer. I'm hoping maybe someone can help? Thanks.

When updates are installing, the computer will not shut down. It gives the standard message to not shut down the computer while update 1 of 3 is installing... you know how that goes. I will leave the computer alone all day and when I return, it is still working on update 1 of 3. The progress seems to be extremely slow. If I need to use my computer I eventually have to shut it down manually and upon restart it does not function properly. The battery meter will not show how much power is available. Programs must be opened twice in order for them to work properly. The computer will not go into sleep mode, the screen just shuts off and will not come back. I'm finishing up my last semester of college and this is getting pretty inconvenient.

Any and all advice is welcomed. Thank you so much!

Welcome

The problem could be with the program or it could be the same problem that I had.

When you get a large number of updates, once a month. Do not install all at once. Do it one or two at a time. If you have your system set to install automatically, change it.

I have not had a problems since I set update to notify.

In addition, if it asks for permission to shut down, say no. Do it yourself. My compueter froze seveal times because the update shut down to install.

I've had my computer on automatic and had no problems, and I install many updates at a time. Anyway, maybe you should do a System Restore to before you installed the updates and try again, except just let the updates install as long as they need. If it takes an extreme amount of time, then I guess you have no choice but to stop it...

Hello mayhawn,

Your software distribution folder may be corrupted. Try the following:

1) Run CMD as admin and at the command prompt type: "net stop WuAuServ" (without quotes). Wait for the message successfully stopped.
2) Locate the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution and rename it SoftOLD (or whatever you like).
3) Now again run CMD as admin
and at the command prompt type: "net start WuAuServ" (without quotes). Wait for the message successfully started.
4) Now try updating windows.

I have stopped the updates from installing automatically. That seems to have stopped the problem for now. Let's hope everything continues to run smoothly.

Thanks for the advice everyone
