    Unknown updates

Every so often, sometimes twice a week, when I go to shut down my computer I get the message "do not attempt to turn off your computer, windows is installing updates". Sometimes it is 1 of 1 or 1 of 2. I have my updates set to NOT install updates automatically, but to notify me. My question: why is this happening and how do I stop it?

It would be my guess that the last few updates did not install properly. The only thing I can think of is to use system restore from prior to the last updates that you received. Then install one at a time. Do not install the next until you are sure the prior was installed properly.

Also, I always tend to keep a close 'watch' on my updates - I've said this before but I always use my discretion. It takes time, yes, but I read the info on the left and then the 'more information' link. What I do consistently - always - install are updates for Defender.

Best to download one at a time. Many updates require a restart. If all are downloaded at once, several requiring a restart may cause a conflict. I have seen many problems due to this situation.

Many thanks, believe you're correct about Defender
