Shortcuts that are managed by GPO disappear in All Programs in Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.

Symptoms:
Assume that you have a Group Policy Object (GPO) that copies .lnk shortcut files to the following location:

C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\

When this issue occurs, the explorer.exe process does not show the shortcuts in the All Programs list under the Start menu.

Note The issue does not occur immediately when you log on to the computer. It occurs during the regular usage.

Cause:
This issue occurs because there is a race condition in the explorer.exe process that makes the explorer.exe process handle notifications in an incorrect order on the system. Specifically, the explorer.exe process creates, and then deletes the .lnk shortcut files. The correct order should be deleting, and then creating the files. Therefore, the shortcuts are not created.

A memory leak in nonpaged pool memory occurs in Windows Server 2008 R2.

Symptoms:
When a file server is running Windows Server 2008 R2, a memory leak in nonpaged pool memory may occur. This problem occurs when the server is under heavy load and continues to occur until it stops responding and pool memory is exhausted.

Cause:
This problem occurs because of a race condition in the SMB server.

Workaround:
To work around this problem, restart the domain controller.

Symptoms:
This issue occurs if you log off a computer and then log on to it again after several minutes.

Note The scan job works successfully before you log off the computer.

Cause:
This issue occurs because the Microsoft Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service cannot restart automatically when you log on to the computer again. After several minutes that you log off the computer, the Shell Hardware Detection (ShellHW) service stops. Therefore, the WIA service that depends on the ShellHW service also stops. However, when the ShellHW service restarts after you log on to the computer again, the WIA service does not restart.

When a Winsock client issues a nonblocking connection on one thread and waits for the completion event signal on another thread, the event is signaled right before the system releasing the endpoint lock and changing the endpoint state from "in-transition" to "connected." Therefore, when the client tries to issue a setsockopt call or any other Winsock calls, if the call requires that the endpoint state is not "in-transition," the call may fail.
