SYMPTOMS:

Consider the following scenario:

• You have a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
• You use a SCSIport miniport driver as the startup device driver on the computer.
• You install hotfix 2320550 or Service Pack 1 (SP1) on the computer.

In this scenario, you encounter one of the following issues:

• If the operating system encounters a fatal error that causes a Stop error condition, the operating system does not generate a crash memory dump file of the system memory.
• You cannot put the computer in hibernation.

CAUSE:
This issue occurs because the operating system cannot call the crash dump file creation and hibernation features correctly if the operating system starts from a device that uses a SCSIport miniport driver.

Windows 7 Sleep Mode Issues After SP1 Is Deployed

Some Windows 7 customers reported issues with putting their computers into Sleep Mode after they installed Service Pack 1 RTM.

A member of the Microsoft Product Quality Team has confirmed the problems and offered a bit of insight into what’s causing them, as well as some advice on what users can do to fix the glitch.

“Prior to the SP1 installation the system properly went into sleep mode and properly woke up. But, after installing Windows 7 SP1 you may not be able to properly put the system into sleep mode,” the Microsoft Product Quality Team representative said.

“You have to press the power button to force the system restart, and it will show an error that the machine was not shut down properly.”

Users that have a SCSIport miniport driver as the startup device driver on their machines and that started experiencing issues after SP1 RTM was deployed need to install KB 2495523.

This particular hotfix is designed to resolve problems related to hibernation according to the software giant, but it apparently also covers Sleep Mode.

“This issue occurs because the operating system cannot call the crash dump file creation and hibernation features correctly if the operating system starts from a device that uses a SCSIport miniport driver,” the software giant said.

There is an additional workaround, if the hotfix above does not work. Customers are required to customize the power options associated with their copy of Windows 7 SP1.

“Open "Power options" in the control panel. Change the active power plan by clicking the "Change plan settings". Then click "Change the advanced power settings". Scroll down the "Sleep" option and expand it. Change the option "Allow hyprid sleep" to off. Click "OK",” the Microsoft Product Quality Team member added.

Msinfo32.exe takes a long time to display or export system information on a computer that has many MSI-X-supported devices and that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

Symptoms:

Consider the following scenario:

• You have a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. The computer has many processor cores and many MSI-X-supported devices. For example, the computer has 64 processor cores and 16 Gigabit Ethernet controllers that support MSI-X and that use many interrupts.
• You run the Msinfo32.exe utility.
• In the System Information navigation pane, you expand Hardware Resources, and then you click IRQs. Or, you try to export the system information to a text file.

In this scenario, it takes Msinfo32.exe a long time to display the device information or to export the system information.

Note Other applications may also experience this issue when they call the Win32_IRQResource WMI class to query IRQ resource information.

Cause:
The issue occurs because the Win32_IRQResource WMI class does not cache results. Instead, it enumerates all device IRQs during each request. Therefore, the time it takes to enumerate all IRQ resources grows exponentially when the number of IRQ resources increases.
