I just got alerted to an off cycle update published yesterday (2012-11-27) - KB2762895.
I installed it without any errors.
Re-boot was not required, but i re-boot anyway...

When you try to install and run certain legacy games or applications, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:
    • The game, the application, or the firmware is installed incorrectly.
    • The game, the application, or the firmware causes system instability.
    • The primary functions of the game, of the application, or of the firmware do not work correctly.
Applications that experience a change in behavior after you install this update

This update fixes an issue in which you cannot install an application on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008, Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. Additionally, the application uses the .NET Verification Tool (Setupverifier.exe) for the installation procedure. For example, you try to install AutoCAD 2012 and the installation fails.

This issue occurs because the .NET Verification Tool process fails. Therefore, the installation fails.
Source: Application Compatibility Update for Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2: November 2012
Got this update through Windows Update and all went smooth upon reboot.

It does supersede kb2492386 from April 2011 and last reviewed in july 3, 2012.

Didn't mentioned it here as it naturally came in W.U.

Glad of this one to update some compatibilities in Games and Others. Hope it might help some troubleshootings.

    Thanks for the head-up!:)

Was digging for a kb article dated from month ago...This one is reviewed and supersede the Article ID: 2344941 that was for the Windows 7 without SP1.

    -Article ID: 2550978 - Last Review: June 5, 2012 - Revision: 5.0

    APPLIES TO
    • Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1
    • Windows 7 Service Pack 1
"0x0000007B" Stop error after you replace an identical iSCSI network adapter in Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 or in Windows 7 SP1.

    Symptoms:
    Consider the following scenario:
    • You have a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1). The computer supports PCI Express Serial Number Capability.
    • You configure the computer to start from an iSCSI disk.
    • You use an identical device to replace the iSCSI network adapter. For example, the network adapter is a separate network adapter card, or the network adapter is a built-in device on a motherboard.

For example, you replace the device because of a hardware failure.
    • You log on to the computer, and then you restart the computer.
In this scenario, you receive the following Stop error message:
    STOP 0x0000007B ( parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4 ) INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE
See the "Notes" Under the "Symptoms" chapter for detailed infos.

    Cause:
This issue occurs because Windows recognizes the network adapter or the motherboard as a new device.

When the serial number of the network adapter or of the motherboard differs from the serial number of the previous network adapter or motherboard, Windows recognizes a new device.

On-demand antivirus scans do not work as expected in Windows Vista, in Windows 7, in Windows Server 2008, or in Windows Server 2008 R2.

    Symptoms:
Assume that you perform an on-demand scan by using antivirus software on a computer that is running Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, or Windows Server 2008 R2. However, not all infected files are detected by the antivirus software.

Note This issue typically occurs when the antivirus software reads the data by using a memory-mapped file that is locked.

    Cause:
This issue occurs because the antivirus software skips some bytes when the antivirus software reads a file that is locked and that has a mapped view.
