Windows Defender updates
Why does Windows Defender not update weekly? Must you be enrolled in SpyNet first?
There are daily updates available through CoU, (Calendar Of Updates) Two machines do not get the weekly updates, Desktop & Laptop both with 7 Ultimate. |

Are you using MSE? It will shut off defender.

If you are not using MSE and using defender, try the following solutions.
1) Click start > All programs > windows updates> change settings > uncheck Automatic Updates, Uncheck Recommended Updates and uncheck use Microsoft Update Service. This will switch from Microsoft Update back to using Windows Update. Reboot. If it works for you fine, you can now reset the update settings to as they were earlier. 2) Boot into safe mode. Find the folder named Software Distribution (Its located in C:\Windows). Rename SoftwareDistribution to SoftwareDistribution.old OR Delete all its contents. Reboot. Now try to update Defender. 3) There is also a download from Microsoft (Vista/XP). This actually FORCES defender to update. Save it to your desktop.'Run As Administrator' this mpas-fe.exe. When the definition file runs, a file extraction dialog box appears. After the file extraction dialog box closes, verify that the Windows Defender definitions have been updated. http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...es/mpas-fe.exe |

For antivirus software use Microsoft Security Essentials which is free, works fine, and will eliminate the need to use Windows Defender. Of course, you must first disable completely your present av software. You can continue to use your firewall of choice. |

Defender
Sorry I originally posted in the wrong forum..didn't look closely enuff. Not willing to get rid of Nod32 AV...been using it almost 5 years without a hitch, but......I can get along without Windows Defender. I seem to recall that when I originally had SpyNet checked it updated once a week. I'll give that another shot!

Removing alerts for Windows Defender updates only Like most people, I don't rely solely on Windows Defender and thus I use a separate third-party antivirus product. I run both real-time and on-demand scans using the third-party antivirus product. As a secondary precaution, I run Windows Defender on-demand scans, but don't use it's real-time... |

Getting Windows Defender updates offered on W7 Title says it all really. For the last few days I'm being offered updates for Defender which I don't have. I believe Defender started with W8. I let it go ahead the first time thinking it would 'realize' Defender wasn't installed on W7 but it appears to have installed the update anyway ! I... |

Is it Normal to have new updates for Windows defender everyday? I'm not sure if its normal or a software/hardware/driver conflict because I always receive new updates for Windows defender either 2 days - 3 days or a day. |
