I recently updated a brand new computer. After the set up everything worked fine. After I ran the first batch of updates I lost connection to the Internet. I can still see the wireless but can not connect to the Internet. Did a system restore. Started working again. Did the updates and stopped working again. Changed network setting for work to public?
No. If anything set it for home. I spoke to someone having the same problem recently. Apparently one of the updates and certain network cards (wired and wireless) don't get along. I'll look around and see if I can find a solution.

Thanking back, the guy said that he thought it was the update for windows defender he had installed. I'm not sure how he came to this conclusion however. I texted him to see if he found anything out about it but it might be a few minutes until he writes back
The only solution the guy found was reinstalling the drivers for his network card every time he restated his computer.

It not a problem with updating the problem appears after I update. It installs like 32 updates then after it restates I can connect to the router but I can get access to the Internet. It is a problem with one of the updates, which one it is your guess is as good as mine. After I uninstalled the updates I can connect to the net no prob...strange.
Change your update settings to ask you before install. Turn all of them off and install one at a time. Write down each one as you do it. This will tell you which one it is. Do a system restore, uncheck that update, right click it, and click "hide update".
Oh man that would take forever. The thing is I am setting up two laptops. One I updated from xp the other was a boot disk from the bios. the one that is giving memthe issues is the update. I think I will just reinstall from the boot disk. They are fresh computers.
I'm pretty sure reinstalling will just cause the same update to be applied. Do what I said before, but look for an update for Windows Defender. De-select the update. Runs windows updates and see what happens. If it solves the problem there are some options for you. If you have a good antivirus or antimalware program already, you could turn off Windows Defender. If you don't currently have an AV program, download and install MSE. It turns off Defender automatically and does a really good job for a free program. If the problem remains, definitely leave Defender on. It provides some extra protection from spyware.
EDIT: Be advised that some will always disagree with ever turning off defender unless MSE is installed. The choice is up to you. Just wanted to let you know that some will disagree with me and its hard to say who would be right in this situation.
I had this problem numerous times during the beta period. It turned out to be an "updated" NIC driver. (Realtek NIC on a Gigabyte motherboard.)
