    You could try this:

Go to command prompt in boot media - can you get to the command prompt ? [if not you will need something bootable - cd/dvd/usb with win 7 64 bit install media, or 64 bit recovery media ]

use diskpart to find windows 7 driveletter, type:

    diskpart

    lis vol

    exi

Use win7 driveletter in place of capital D below

    cd /d D:\windows\system32

    DISM /image:D:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions

It would have reverted any updates that are still trying to install.

Lokks like you are stuck in a loop.

Try running startup repair a couple of times from the 7 repair disc.

I tried again and again to be sure that my command line was good but as you said i am in a loop.

I had run startup repair maybe 10 times, but still nothing (i use it from the repair option when windows restart, but i guess it is the same as if i had a cd ? I don't have a cd with this computer)

What would you do now ? I wouldn't like to loose the data in the computer if i had to reset windows 7 to default.

    Thanks for your precious help.

No, Startup Repair is not the same when it shows up from your HD as it depends on files from your crippled OS to run, so it needs to be run from the DVD/Repair CD to be sure.

You may also need to run the Commands again from the Repair CD which SIW2 linked earlier and which you need to have on hand.

Do you have factory pre-installed OEM with a Recovery Partition you can run if necessary? Try tapping the F10 key at bootup, after copying out your files using this method: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console.

Recovery doesn't work, but thank you for telling me how to backup files, i will do it now and then maybe restore windows to default to check if it works.

i am now trying to repair from a recovery CD that i just downloaded.

Something else i would like to try is to disable/uninstall Windows defender as i am sure it is involved in the trouble, but i can't find how to do on windows 7, solutions i found only work forr XP VISTA, any idea ?

    Million thanks.

    I tried

    cd /d D:\windows\system32
    DISM /image:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions

from CD now but no more result.

Now saving important files on HD before trying ACER restore (computer is Acer and they have an option to restore windows without deleting files, but i don't believe so much that it will work)

    Still stuck will the problem.

    From cmdprompt, type regedit

In regedit, clcik Hkey local machine to highlight it, then click File>Load Hive

Browse to your win 7 partition \windows\system32\config and select the file called "system"

Give it any name you like E.G. PESYS

Under HKLM - you will see your loaded hive.

You could look at select to find which control set - but there are only a couple so may as well do both.

    Under control set 1

    Services, find WinDefend

Clcik it and in the right you will see Start - rt click Start and modify to 4 ok.

    Repeat for control set 2.

When done , click PESYS to highlight it, click File>Unload Hive.
