Windows boot manager

I upgraded from xp to 7 A little while ago,my friends sorted It out, and when I turn on my Dell optiplex 745 series,instead of booting straight into Windows 7,I am Instead optioned with windows boot manager where I can load windows 7 or load an earlyer version of windows.

I have no other o/s installed on the Dell, It was A formated and clean install, and when I test to see what that 'load earlyer version of windows' option is all about. I get A black screen that says the following:

Windows could not start the following files Is missing or corrupt:
Windows root>\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install A copy of the above file

So does anyone on how I can get ride of this windows boot manger option at the begining when I turn on my computer, So It just boats straight into windows.

Have you tried typing "msconfig" in the start button search box? Under the "Boot" tab, if there is a second menu item listed, you can delete it and just boot directly to Windows 7?

I tryed your suggestion but there Is only windows 7 and no other In the box like picture bellow,so nothing to deleat.



I don't know how to link A picture to this thread but If you visit the link bellow that is what I'm getting,but windows 7 were It says microsoft windows vista

Not to worry.I've done it.

This was how,you can change default boot OS by right clicking my computer, and selecting properties. then on the left, advanced system settings. click advanced, then settings under startup and recovery. you can also change the duration of the boot manager there.

Please post back a screenshot of your full Disk management drive map and listings, using Snipping Tool in Start Menu.

Chances are you still have another OS on the drive, or have another partition where an OS previously resided marked System Active which is causing the ghost boot entry. We can help you correct it rather than just cover it up by timing down the Dual Boot menu.
