    need wordpad help

    windows 7 wordpad
    does it have help files?
i hunted on the internet and couldn't find that info
    not in windows support either

i accidentally cut some data out when i pasted a picture in and saved the document (.rtf) without realizing it.

does wordpad back up the previous version like some word rocessors do?

is there a way to recover that file? i *really* need the data and i don't think there's a way to figure out the stuff that got deleted. i know sometimes data can be recovered from a drive.

um, this is on a usb stick.

    thank you muchly

    Hello Laurie,

You might have a previous version of the file. Using the steps in the tutorial below, right click on the file, click on Restore previous versions, or on Properties and the Previous Versions tab to see if you may.

Previous Versions - Restore Files and Folders

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

oh for crying out loud. when i insert the usb stick (is that the right name for it?) my computer does the little "beep-boop" that it does when i plug anything in, but when i look in windows explorer, it doesn't show up in "my computer". i tried a couple other usb sticks and got the same problem. i removed my mouse usb plug and my fan usb plug to see if it would help but it didn't. rebooting the computer didn't help. i also tried using different ports.

i think i know what the problem is.

Obviously, i've got gremlins fillin' my kittehs' heds wif berry ebil tings to du.

    confusedly yours,

    Laurie G.

You would not have previous versions of anything on a external device like a USB stick though.

Sometimes it may take a moment for the USB device to be recognized. You might also close and reopen the Computer window, or refresh (F5) it to see if the USB device is displayed in Computer.

Do they show up on other computers that you plug them into?

Double check to make sure that you have the Shell Hardware Detection service set to Started and Automatic.

Do you have AutoPlay turned on? Try connecting the USB device with it turned on or off as a test.

If it is anywhere, it will be save in Username - My Documents, as a.rtf file, by default.
But in Wordpad, if you click the small question mark top right, you will get help. Otherwise, in the start menu - Help and Support, type Wordpad help. You will get the same page of help for wordpad
