Icon Thumbnail appears too small

Good day!

I have another problem regarding thumbnail views.

I have these Icon Files (.ico), some appear to be smaller that the others but they were created on the same resolution of 256x256.

At first they appear normal, but when I copy these files to another directory, some icons don't retain their thumbnail size, e.g., from the image above "hp", "jp", "xmen".

But then again, when I rename those files, they revert to their original size, i.e., "jp" renamed to "jp3".

and when I rename "jp3" back to "jp", the thumbnails appear to be small again.

Note that the problem occurred when the Folder containing the icons were copied to another directory.

Hoping for your immediate reply for this concern.

Thank You.

Have you by any chance got two copies of the J. Park icon in the folder where the icons are stored? Any chance you can attach one of the troublesome icon files to this Forum as I would like to try it in my Image Editor?

@mitchell65:

Here's a copy of the icon. You may try the other icons that became faulty just now. I compressed them because the icon file was not included on the available file types for attachment.

THanks for the download. Ihave to say that I cannot replicate your problem. Whatever I do regarding renaming the icons has no effect on their size. Are your icons that are shown in the screenshots links to another file? If so how have you created that link?
It is possible that this problem may be related to a corrupt file during Windows install. Have you re installed Windows 7 lately as I see you are running the Ultimate version! Did your desktop come with the Ultimate version pre loaded?

I notice you only have a 256x256 image in the files. It may be that you need the smaller sizes for Windows to chose correctly. You can use IcoFx (The free version) to add more. IcoFX Portable | PortableApps.com - Portable software for USB, portable and cloud drives

-no, they are just .ico files. I haven't re-installed the windows 7 lately. Actually I also use a Windows 7 Home Premium, the icons behave differently on both OS, some icons appear small in Home Premium, and those same icons appear normal in Ultimate and vice versa.

-I use these icons to change the icons of my folders, they were for my movie compilations, i.e., hp icon if for Harry Potter Movies 1-7, etc. I just only need a one copy of the icon (256x256) which is I think the largest thumbnail for Windows.

OK it should work but the complete set of sizes would help Windows decide what to do. One thing you could try is rebuilding the icon cache. Icon Cache - Rebuild

-sorry for the late reply. I have already tried to rebuild the icon cache but still no luck, other icons still appear to be small, others got fixed.

- open the folder which has problem
- Right click on empty area and uncheck "View-> Hide File names" option.
- If this option is not exist then press and hold SHIFT key, right-click in empty area and select "View -> Medium Icons" option.

- If it doesn't work, enable "Show hidden files and folders" option in Folder Options and then delete "Desktop.ini" file present in the folder which has this invisible name problem.

hopefully it will work.........
