Pinning RDP's to taskbar... not behaving as expected

    Hello,

I am currently trying to pin some remote applications to the taskbar. I have created shortcuts and pinned them to the taskbar only when I click them, they don't show active. Instead, a new item opens up on the taskbar... so now I have two icons to do the job of one. Any way around this?

    Hello cokewithvanilla,

Are you able to "Pin to taskbar" the second icon that opened on the taskbar?

If so, does using that pinned icon instead, and removing the other, work to only open that one?

    Hope this may help, :)

No. That doesn't appear to be an option for Remote Desktop connections. That's why I had to make the shortcut

What apps are the shortcuts for?

    Hmm, ok.

I tested again on my system, and you should be able to pin the "%windir%\system32\mstsc.exe" file to your taskbar and have it open a RDC window for a PC without having another icon on the taskbar like below. If you like, you could also pin each PC (ex: tuffy-pc) you RDC with in the jump list of the pinned RDC icon on the taskbar to make it easier to open them from the same icon.

Jump Lists - Pin or Unpin Items

    my shortcut looks like this:

    %windir%\system32\mstsc.exe "C:\Users\*******\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Workspaces\{D3E2E965-F248-48C4-A11A-76F64C921BB7}\Resource\LoadMaster on TS2 (Work Resources).rdp"

It doesn't open a remote desktop connection to a computer, it opens a remote desktop connection to an application.

i can pin with no issues, it's just when clicked, it opens a new item on the bar instead of combining. I installed a taskbar modifier, and these items come up as two different IDs.. I can force them to combine, but the minute I open a new window in the remote application, the new window is a separate icon.

    Ah, that's why then.

There's not a way around this that I know of since the pinned app is basically opening another app.
