    All Programs is gone.. Again

Well, All Programs seems to once again have gone blank. This has happened to me before but it was usually solved by either moving the Programs folder to the Desktop and back or setting it to Hidden but now it seems that neither of these solutions are working. Anyone got any ideas?

    Hello Dash,

I'm not certain if this is the same problem that you are having, but you might check to make sure that All Programs didn't get disabled some how.

Start Menu All Programs List - Enable or Disable - Vista Forums

If this is not it, then you might create another administrator account to see if it works ok in it.

    Hope this helps for now,
    Shawn

Nope, All Programs is not disabled Creating another account really sounds like more bother than it's worth. I'm going to be forced to format soon anyway. Thanks for the tips.

    Dash,

You might do a repair install first to see if that may fix it so that you do not lose anything.

Nostalgic! This issue was how I after tiresome Googling found this Forum.

I had this issue on two computers, have now seen or heard about couple more.

From various places on the net I found a workaround:
    - Right click Start Menu > All Programs, choose Open All Users
    - Make a new Folder, call it what you like (i.e. Moved Items)
    - Move Start Menu folders / items to this new folder, until you have less than 70 folders & items in the root of Start Menu
    - Log Out & Log In (or close Windows Explorer from Task Manager and restart it)

Why it works? With more than 70 folders & items in Start Menu/Program folders (both All Users & User together) the All Programs list mysteriously disappears.

P.S. This is not my tip, it´s combined from various sources I found when googling the net trying to find a solution. Credits where they belong.

EDIT: The bug seems to be fixed in retail version. It occurs in builds prior to 7600.

Geez - you guys have it all wrong. There is no "magic number"... you just have to rebuild your icon cache. If you follow the instructions here, problem solved. I just did it and it's the magic pill:

    Icon Cache - Rebuild

    Game, point, set - me

    (Sorry for the puffery)

True... if someone had actually given you the correct answer. They were treating the symptom, not the problem.
