Last 6 months of Word and Live Mail files vanish

Today my wife discovered that Word docs and LiveMail inbox messages since May 5 of this year have disappeared. They are not in Recycling or otherwise findable, and Word doesn't even remember her working on them.

Win7 Enterprise, LiveMail 2012, Word 2010

I checked System Restore and there were no restores available before today, 11/23. When I've tried restores before, they would be available farther back.

I also note that in looking around for Chkdsk I opened up the disk defragmenter module. It's set to run every week, and the last time it ran was on May 6. So there, too, we have a missing time interval. Ran Chkdsk, no problems found.

what caused this? Atm, everything else seems to be ok, but should I should I be worrying about a hard drive problem? I've never heard of anything like this. TIA

How do I search for a word in all Windows Live Mail e-mails at once?
I'm trying to find a word (or word string) in several years worth of e-mails. The built-in Windows 7 search engine is very fast, but appears to only find those e-mails in which the word is included in the title or addresses. I want to find words in the body of the e-mails. Will the Win 7 engine...
