The Acer Aspire 1700 notebook is not supported by Acer for Windows 7, only XP.

You might try the one BIOS upgrade given on the BIOS tab on Support Downloads page for that model: http://gd.panam.acer.com/home/

It says it is for XP but it is from 2008 so it might enable APCI so Windows 7 can be installed.

Confirm that you need the BIOS update by comparing it to the BIOS version given on your first bootup screen or on BIOS setup page.

If needed, Download it to the XP desktop and follow instructions to install.

You can search for the model of your motherboard and look on the Support Downloads page for that model mobo to see if it has a more recent BIOS upgrade. It may not install however since computer makers sometimes block these Updates for proprietary reasons.

You can also Google your model's BIOS and mobo updates, or Chat with support for your computer maker if it is out of tech support warranty, or call if it is still tech supported.

Did you try booting from the Win7 DVD? If so, try running it from XP desktop.

Hello recently a friend of mine asked me to re-install windows xp on Acer Aspire 1700, i found some problems after installing i have downloaded all the drivers via Acer official website for that laptop, but seems doesnt work well because neither i can see the Wirless, seems have some problem, neither Nvdiadia GeForce go5600 cant find drivers. well the main problem is the grapgic card which, i have search all around the internet and found only on this forum something.

Anyone met problems with installing VGA drivers on that laptop?

for Acer Aspire 1700 laptop who ever tryed to install windows 7 it is impossible but just in case somebody re-install windows on that crapy computer i recommect to keep that drivers for VGA it was the only one that i have search all the web and couldnt find them even at Nvidia website O.o (yeah!! )

I will add the code problem which i met just in case for the next people who will google it.

Device problem code was this one
    Code:
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_031A&SUBSYS_00281025&REV_A1\4&10C8FD24&0&0008
For the people who search it will be like nvidia geforce go5600.

I have attached the files with the drivers i used. Good luck and hope will not met computer like this one anymore

First of all did you Enable hardware auto-updating via Windows Update (Steps 3 and 6) then install all Important and Optional Updates which will include drivers that Win7 wants?

I assume you've installed 32 bit which is all I'd use on that model since it is so old 64 bit drivers may not be available whereas almost any after 2010 can be found.

Then did you try installing the VGA driver on the Acer webpage for that model? Download Drivers and Manuals | Acer Official Site

You may need to install it in Compatibility Mode

If not then you can use VGA but it won't have sleep or Hibernate available. For this reason I always stick with making the driver work and haven't done without one yet even if it's XP in XP SP2 Compat mode or earlier. These modes trick the installer into thinking its installing to that OS.

Did you run the Nvidia driver scan on it? NVIDIA Driver Downloads - Automatically Detect NVIDIA ...

It also shows here how to trace Hardware Identification
