    Can't search within Libraries' folders

I haven't been very lucky with Libraries. First case was a few months ago when IE8 couldn't find items within folders in Libraries. Now, I can't really search within any folder in Libraries -- not in Documents, Videos, Music, etc.

I can search from within Favorites, in any folder.

Is this about sharing or permissions? It just happened today.

    Thank you.

    Hello Roxy,

Double check these items to see if they may be able to help. While you can still search in normal folders in Windows Explorer with the below off, you will not be able to search in Libraries unless they are both turned on.
    • Check to make sure that Windows Search service is set to Start and Automatic.
    • In Windows Features, check to make sure that Windows Search is checked to be turned on.
    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Thanks for your prompt reply. I did both steps but they did not work: I can still search from within Favorites but not Libraries.

    Thank you.

After you have done the steps above, did you close and reopen the library? It will not always start searching unless you do.

Also check to make sure that you have the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service it set to Start and Automatic as well.

Done. But nothing changes. Still unable to search within Libraries. Well, I can still work in Favorites. I can't imagine what I may have changed the day this started. The only thing I did was uninstall PDFCreator and installed the newest version.
    Thank you for your efforts.

Do you use McAfee? McAfee had released an automatic update that treated a Windows 7 system file as a virus, hence corrupting the Search function and the indexing.

Uninstall McAfee > reindex > then reinstall McAfee. Everything should work.
