    Headset Mic Issues.

Hello everyone. I was was given a headset by a good friend of mine since mine had recently broke. He assured me that the headset was fine since he had used it the previous night and both audio and recording worked fine. When I had arrived home and tested it I found that only audio was working but my computer wasn't tracking the detecting sound going into the mic we currently have two different operating systems I'm currently on Windows 7 Ultimate whilst he's currently on Windows Vista Home premium. The mic he had given me is a none USB mic, the link to the mic can be found at: Philips - Webcam Share - SPC1035NC/00 - Webcams with headsets - Webcams and headsets - PC products and phones .

You have the driver for the onboard sound installed? Unless someone has one hidden somewhere the best you['re going to get for it is the Vista driver from gateway,

Sigmatel HD Audio Driver Version: 6.10.5405.0

Try using compatibility mode to install it,

    Compatibility Mode

Without a driver other than whatever default that Windows installs, most things won't work properly.

One of the joys of trying to get no longer supported hardware to work, if it doesn't there isn't much you can do but to replace it. Post #8 here,

Will Sigmatel High Definition Audio CODEC work with 7?

sums up what is going on with Sigmatel audio and why there will most like never be a proper working Windows 7 driver for it.

May or may not help but have a search through the Sound & Audio forum,

    Sound & Audio - Windows 7 Forums

using Sigmatel for the search term, and you may get lucky and find a solution in one of the threads there (there are currently 4 pages of results).

Shouldn't be a problem with them as most don't have a driver and just use the default Windows USB audio driver (any application for extra features can be another story though).

Updating old systems is always such a hassle.

Other than the onboard sound on yours, everything else is good to go looking at the full specs here,

    Gateway Support - Specifications

Not much Gateway or you can do though when the company that made the audio chip (and drivers for it) is basically out of business.

In your case a cheap sound card or USB headset that does have Windows 7 support will have everything up and running. If you go the sound card route stick to something from Creative/ Auzentech/HT Omega/Asus. If you go the USB headphone route going to have to wait for a recommendation on that as I have no idea what to recommend.
