Or
C:\ProgramData\HP folder
Did you Icon Cache - Rebuild
it has to be somewhere do a search for deviceImageMFP.png, deviceImageMFP.ico, printer.ico
Jerry
Thanks for your interest in this Jerry :)
I did the searches to no avail. I think the MFP in your terms means Multi Funtion Printer, which I don't have. Searched for deviceImage too, nothing, printer.ico brought up the icon I made.
I did figure out how to change the scanner icons to my printer in the printer property window. One issue I think is that my printer uses a generic HP driver built-in Win 7, HP has no Win 7 driver.
I haven't tried to rebuild icon cache since I thought it would change all the work we've done back to default?
hopefully you can understand mystupid mazeeasily followed diagram below.
Gary rebuilding icon cache will not change anything to default the icon cache stores the information about icons that could be why that old icon is still there, now that you have changed the icon the cache needs new information that might not be the proper explanation but a simple one.
Mine toI think is that my printer uses a generic HP driver built-in Win 7
Did you dig around in
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Device Stage\Device

Two more question did you take ownership and give yourself permission before you change the name of the .dll ? And did you change in both C:\Windows\System32 & C:\Windows\SysWOW64 ?
Jerry
Yessir, I couldn't change the name till I took ownership. And did so in both System32 and SysWOW64, the permission I'm confused on.
Look at post #6 it shows you how to take ownership and give permission Basic Networking Information
