Imation usb flash disk not working in Win7

    Help please,

I have an Imation Usb Flash disk 4GB nano pro,
everytime I plug in to my Toshiba Laptop A300 using Win7
it says windows update cannot find the driver ,
so it say usb device not recognized and I cant see it in my Devices with removable storage.

When i go to device manager, i can see the unknown device as nano pro
but no driver installed, it has an yellow exclamation mark. tried update driver but failed because win7 cannot find it online.

When i run Ubuntu OS on the same laptop,
usb imation is working so i guess theres a problem only with Win7 driver or Win7 OS .

Could someone help me find the driver installer...

Also, i tried a different brand usb flash disk and its working on Win7 only this Imation brand.

    Thanks a lot

A quick Google brought up the above link.
No driver is required for a USB drive on any version of Windows newer than 98/ME. Looks like the drive has a 5 year warranty and as they say in Star Trek, "Its dead Jim".

Try these fixes, starting from the easiest.

    1. Power cycle your laptop. Remove the battery, Remove the AC power (mains plugged out).Leave for a few minutes and then connect the battery and the AC Power. Boot and then plug in your pendrive. (This simple procedure helped many.)

    2. Try Microsoft Fix-it. Fix All Types Of USB Related Problems In Your Windows With Official Microsoft USB Fix It

    3. Do a drive clean up. USB drive or flash problems? How to cleanup and remove old USB storage drivers - TechSpot Forums Note: a) download the latest version v0.8.1 drivecleanup.zip from Drive Tools for Windows b) Instead of moving the DriveCleanup.exe to the System32 folder you can right click on the .exe file (32bit or 64bit depending upon your system bit version) and run it as administrator.

    4. Copy some important USB related files as detailed in Problem with usb drives/ports showing in explorer . Note: Before copying these to the locations specified, you may backup the existing files in another location - just in case you need to go back.

5.Rebuild the infcache.1 file. Refer to this tutorial USB Driver - General Fix for Problems Note: a) Repeat Fix 3 drive cleanup. You may then omit the first part since you would have already eliminated all non-present devices. Just execute the delete infocache.1 file as detailed. b) You may move it to another location again just in case you want to revert. c) In case of any problem ask pooch.

Try these in the order specified. I really do not know which one may work in your case and we will be learning as much as you will be.

Also, make sure you are inserting it into a USB2 port....not a USB3 port. Just confirm that this is the case.

    Hi again,
sorry for long reply it was taking me too long to do the suggested solutions.

    To jumanji,
    tried the suggested solution,
    1. switch off the laptop and disconnected plug and removed battery, it didnt worked for me.
2.downloaded and run the microsoft usb tool fix, it found a problem regarding upper and lower filter and removed it. Still didnt work
    3. Downloaded Drive cleanup.exe and run it, it removes all the usb drives and all my memory stick didnt work, I have to make system restore just to make other usb work.
    4. Followed instrction by ppoooch, for the general fix, still doesnt work, everytime i plug the usb, it says searching for driver at windows update. Still doesnt work.
    5. Done the rebuild cache but still doesnt work though. Now i have to ask pooch

    To Golden,

Try checking the USB drive for errors in Windows on the laptop that works with it. Run Check Disk.
Have you tried copying the data from the flash drive on the laptop that works, formatting the flash drive and copying the data back? Then inserting it into the laptop that cannot read it. Failing that it will be a possible registry issue or a bad usb drive that simply won't work on 7 any more.
