When running diskpart in recovery setup I get both DVD drives listed
Then it's a software problem (I expected that).

Please make screenshot of what's in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} after booting normally in windows

Hardware devices are not working or are not detected in Windows
Same problem in Safe Mode ?
Same problem when booting Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup ?

When done do:
1. Open the Start Menu, type msconfig in the search box, and press Enter.

2. If prompted by UAC, then click on Yes (Windows 7) or Continue (Vista).

3. In the General tab, select (dot) Normal Startup, and click on OK. (see screenshot below)

I assume Device L in MountedDevices is the drive in question

uninstall daemon tools, alhocol if installed. Reboot.
Delete the upperfilters if you added it yourself! Delete what I show in attached screenshot. Reboot. Post mounteddevices subkey again afterwards. Post diskmanagement again, but now do in diskmagement: view->bottom view->graphical (translatd from Ducth so maybe not exact correct terms).

Make the data field as large as possible in mounteddevices, so I can see all!

When I delete the UpperFilters I receive an error from iTunes stating drivers for importing and burning CD/DVD is missing. Then tells me to re-install iTunes.

I had iTunes installed. After adding the IDE DVD-RW I started getting the iTunes error. So I researched it and added the GEARAspiWDM entry to fix the iTunes error, which it did. Now that I deleted the GEARAspiWDM entry iTunes is giving the error again.

After installing a GEAR Software or a GEARWorks GEAR Powered Product (such as Apple iTunes, Norton Ghost and Norton 360) on Vista, the CD/DVD drives disappear in Windows Explorer and the installed software is unable to detect any CD/DVD drives on the system.

Ever had that software?
