ipod 6th gen not working in windows 7

I recently installed Windows 7 on my HP x32 laptop and now my daughters ipod will not work. Under devices it shows a triangle with an exclamation point and says that it is not working properly and that something is wrong with the device. Properties tells me that Windows is currently uninstalling device with error code 21. I have done every kind of update, uninstalled, reinstalled and everything else I could find to no avail. iTunes does recognize the ipod but that's as far as it goes. There were no problems before with my Vista. I do not have another computer that does not have Windows 7. My daughter has a netbook and it is the same problem on there.
I am extremely frustrated as I cannot do anything with it. My daughter wants a new ipod touch for her birthday, but I am afraid to spend the money for fear the same will happen with that one.
If anyone could help me I would be so grateful!! Thank you in advance!

Try this, connect the iPod to the PC. Then go to the Windows Device Manager. It should be shown with an error or there will be an Unknown device listed in the USB section of the Device Manager. Whichever case, RIGHT click on the entry for the device and then LEFT click "Uninstall" ALSO check the box to uninstall the drivers.

Then disconnect the iPod from the PC and then restart the PC. After Windows starts, and you are on line, connect the iPod and if your are lucky Windows will detect and install it.

If this works, don't forget to eject the iPod using iTunes before you disconnect it.

I have an 8GB iPod (older model) that works OK in Win 7.

Ok, so I tried that. It did as it for should and under devices the exclamation was gone, but as soon as iTunes opened, it was back again! Even after I closed iTunes it is still there! Ugh! I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes I cannot tell you how many times! I am at a loss!Thank you for your help though :)

LOL, still did not work. Sharepod said there was an error while detecting. This an ipod nano 6th gen, as well. When I Tunes is not open the exclamation is gone.

Are there any motherboard chipset drivers on the HP site for this model? If its just Vista drivers, they will work for Win 7. If there are motherboard chipset drivers download and install them. One of the prime things the chipset drivers do is define (identify) all the devices on the motherboard.
