upgrade win xp pro (english) to hebrew win7 ultimate

    Hello,

I bought HEBREW windows 7 ultimate 64 bit version DVD.
When I tried upgarde winXP pro to HEBREW windows 7 ultimate I got the message:
"This installation disk isn't compatible with your version of windows.
To upgrade, you need the correct installation disc.
To install a new copy of windows, restart (boot) your computer using the installation disc and then select custom"

How can user check what is the "correct" installation disc for upgrade?
Can I using my DVD, or maybe I spent my money?

    Many thanks.

You cant do an upgrade install from 32 bit to 64 bit, neither from xp to win7. You need to do a clean install. Heres how.

    Hello Bill,

When I tried to do clean install it didn't get my product key.
This is the reason I enter this forum.

The product is new original one. The product key is printed on the back of the DVD package but windows refuse using it.
Did you had such an issue ?

Well you first said you did an upgrade. Did you choose the Custom install (clean install) option when prompted by the dvd? You dont have to necessarily enter the key right at that point, you can enter and activate later.

    Hi Bill,

First I tried to do clean install. It was fine until after reboot it asked me for my product key. It didn't got my product key. Then I installed my winXP Pro OEM and tried to do "upgrade" and got the message I wrote above.

The current last status is: I have winXP Pro installation.
My question is if someone try to do "upgrade" installation as "clean installation" and did it successfully with it's win7 upgarde product key.
I'm afraid to spent again a lot of time on this installation.

Do you think it will take the "upgrade product key" when see the win XP installed?

    Thank you,

    Ariel
