32 bit to 64 bit

    32 bit to 64 bit


    I've always use 32 bit Windows system and 4g of memory , Can I switch over to a 64 bit ?
    I have the full ver. of Windows 7

    My mother board is able to run both 32 or 64 bit , Do I just wipe the drive out ? Can I keep anything I have now like my EI 10,Firefox and any programs? I just want to be able to go over the 4g memory max .

    You need to do a Clean Install, no upgrade possible.

    The difference between a 32 bit and 64 bit OS is much more than just 32 bits. Internally they are really very different, so different that Microsoft deemed an upgrade as impractical. A clean install of the OS and all applications is necessary.

    I don't think that you will a get a lot more out of the 64bit. With 4GBs it is no worth the hassle - I think. I ran both.

    The last line of inkslingers post has this:

    That is why he wants to move to 64 bit.

    Could he do a parallel install that would put the 32 bit install in windows.old? That makes it real easy to access personal data, favorites, etc after the install of 64 bit.

    He could also make an image of his current system and mount that in the new system. Easiest with the wbadmin command.

    WBADMIN START BACKUP -backupTarget:F: -include:C:

    Where F is the external disk to which the image is written.

    Will I installed Windows Ultimate 7 64 bit over 32 bit runs find ! Going over my old window folders to see what I can transfer over and deleting the ones I can't , now I'm picking my full 4 gb and will add another 4 later {befor 32 bit will only use 3.95 gb} and add a 1 tar bite drive.
