Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit install ERROR 0x8007045D

Ok I have been over this forum with a fine tooth comb the past few days trying to troubleshoot my problem that I am having.

I have attempted to install every iteration of windows 7 on my brand new build. I don't have any blank DVD's so I have been attempting to install from USB. Every time it will get to the Expanding Windows Files and it hangs at 0% then eventually throws this error ( 0x8007045D ).

Before every attempted install the HDD is pulled and wiped using my other system. My BIOS is set to default and I don't have settings to disable legacy USB.

Every part of this build is literally brand new all bought at the same time at the same place. I am quite literally stumped as to what is going on and the last attempt I tried I knocked the system down to 2gb of RAM and moved the SATA cable to the 6gbs connector and still nothing.

Motherboard - MSI 970A-G46
CPU - AMD FX 8350
RAM - 8gb Ballistix
GPU - XFX HD 7770 Ghost Edition
PSU - Corsair CX 750

My case is a Corsair 800D which has the hot swap drive bays. I thought that maybe the hard drive was bad but when I put it into the bay I can hear it spin up, but don't hear the hard drive at all during the attempted windows install.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, I also attempted a clone hard drive as I have had luck with them just swapping to an entirely new system in the past but didn't happen on this build. With the cloned drive on my new build I just sit at the windows splash forever and it eventually just freezes.

Back up your files, unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. If an EFI BIOS you'll need to decide if you want UEFI BIOS vs. Legacy BIOS. If UEFI follow these special steps for Install, otherwise enable Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module to proceed with normal install:

Set DVD drive first to boot, HD second, set SATA controller to AHCI, Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into Windows 7 installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here. I would use a fresh ISO written with tool in Step 2 as yours is in question.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10, or enter System Recovery Options to open a Command Box, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT

Next click Install Now, then Custom install to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

After install you can adjust partition size or Create new partitions for data, etc. in Disk Mgmt. You are creating the partition here for the purpose of wiping the HD and marking Active which overcomes certain install failures.

ok absolutely nothing has worked. I attempted the above steps mentioned and it didn't get me anywhere at all.

Whenever I would type "clean" into DiskPart I would get an I/O error. eventually my 1tb failed so I figured it would be a bad hard drive so I took it back and got yet another brand new one. It's doing the exact same thing as before.

Now I decided to use my old 500gb HDD to boot the system and voila it worked. So with it working on the new build and having all the new boot drivers in place I attempted to clone drive to drive again.

True Image WD edition prompts for a restart during the clone process and once I click restart it pops up an error stating the Acronis Bootable has failed... or something along those lines.

So I then opted to try Macrium Reflect and everything goes smoothly up to the point where it starts processing VirtualShadowCopy and it hangs at 99% and goes no further AND doesn't throw an error... I left it for 9 hours, no error just hung there.

I then decided to try the DiskPart / Clean step on my 2nd BRAND NEW out of the box WD Black 1tb hard drive and yet again I get the I/O error.

I tried to reformat the drive through disk management and it went to 100% then a window popped up saying format failed and now my new HDD is RAW instead of NTFS.

I am stumped and extremely peeved right now as it appears me upgrading to a larger HDD is out of the question. I have never and I mean NEVER had this much trouble upgrading hard drives before in my life. I mean what's the chances of me getting two bad BRAND NEW hdd's in a row seriously?

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated as I am stuck.

Is there a BIOS update for your mobo?

Have you tried using the Acronis Boot CD to clone or image to the larger HD. Use Auto setting, if prompted choose to mark 100mb Active, copy MBR and Track0.

We have seen new drives fail. But to be sure run the HD Diagnostic extended CD scan on each to make sure it is good.

Did you download and write a fresh ISO to stick as suggested in steps? Buy some DVD's to try a DVD install.

Test your RAM - Test with Memtest86+ . Try install with only one stick of RAM, then try swapping sticks. Check for debris in slots to blow out with compressed air.

As a last resort, try install to target HD plugged in alone to another PC. After install, move back to problem PC, boot Paragon Adaptive Restore CD to P2P Adjust the new OS to boot on changed hardware.

I am not gonna lie you have me lost on the last step.

But yes I have tried numerous fresh ISO's from Digital River and all seem to fail. I am going to try the DVD step and see how that fairs.

But right now I would just like to straight up clone my 500GB drive to my 1TB drive. This way I'll keep all my files, pics, documents.

I just tried the True Image WD edition to clone and it went through the entire process without fail. But booting from the newly cloned 1TB drive got me to "Starting Windows" and the first boot I got to black screen with mouse cursor and every boot after gave me windows failed to start error.

For some reason I can only format the WD 1tb drive using the True Image WD software any attempt through windows to format leaves it as RAW.

Once I re-formatted the 1tb drive I attempted the Macrium Reflect Clone disk process. The process goes very smoothly up to 99% where it just sits at Processing Volume Shadow Copy. It doesn't fail ever even after 9 hours it turns out it's just going extremely slow. After 9 hours it only wrote 800+ KB of info.

Not sure what else to try to use in an attempt to get this drive working. I am not incredibly PC savvy so I apologize if I don't comprehend some steps you suggest. I also won't do some things that go out of my comfort zone as I don't want to harm my system.

What did you use to write the ISO to flash stick? Try UltraISO Software To Create Bootable USB Flash Drive which never fails.

During the booted Clean Install Windows 7 delete all partitions at Steps 7 and 8 to create new for install.

when installing windows 7 I deleted all partitions and clicked New Volume. I was using the Win7USB software and even tried the ZOTAC usb software as well.

I decided on a whim to purchase a Seagate 1TB drive and see if it was still doing the same thing. Low and behold the damn drive is doing the exact same thing as my past 2 WD 1TB drives were. When attempting to format it the format fails and the data goes to RAW and I can't do anything with it. I am running seatools on it right now to see if I get some leverage here, I also downloaded the DiscWizard software to clone my old seagate to my new one and the Clone option isn't even available even though the booklet says it is...lame.

I will attempt the partition wizard if I can use a USB to boot it since I don't have any blank DVD's and honestly don't want to waste money on them.

If you have a UEFI BIOS not set to Legacy BIOS or CSM enabled, then you'll need to install to UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with - Windows 7 Forums with a flash stick specially created using Option 1 in UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows .

Next I would try a new ISO for your licensed version burned to DVD with MS tool.
DVD's are 3 for $2 on the wall rack at Walgreens.

Is there a newer BIOS Update for your mobo?

if install fails again and isn't UEFI, or has CSM or Legacy BIOS enabled, then boot into Win7 installer, at first screen press Shift + F10 to open a Command Line, define an Active partition from step 2.2 of SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation.
