    If you want to do a clean, custom install then the answer is no. If you want to do an in-place upgrade keeping all your installed software as well as your personal files, then I recommend it. More info about in-place upgrade here.

    Nope I wouldn't it would just be a waste of time.. The only time I would do that is if you ran the installer within Windows and/or you are doing a in-place upgrade...If you are doing a clean install than running Windows Update would be a useless thing because it is erasing your old OS and putting Windows 7 on. After Windows 7 installs I would than run a Windows Update..
