    PST from old computer not interacting with Outlook 2010


    I am doing a 60-day trial of Office Home and Business, solely because I can't get Outlook 2000 to function properly on my new Windows 7 system. I put my old OL file in User>AppData>Local>Microsoft>Outlook. It shows up in the OL folder list with the heading Archive Folders, but it is not associated with the e-mail account I had created before transferring the .pst file onto the new machine. It also resides not under the E-mail tab of the Account Settings dialog box but under Data Files.

    How can I move it from Data Files to E-mail and get my main e-mail address associated with it? I would also prefer that it be called Personal Folders on the folder list rather than Archive Folders.

    Hi DrJoanie.

    Yes Outlook 2000 is getting a bit old, so moving up to a newer version makes sense.
    I'm assuming you are trialling Outlook 2010.

    There is a good tutorial here on migrating and renaming old email folders - if you haven't done so already trace back over your steps compared with those in the tutorial and see if the answer is in there somewhere.

    If that doesn't help then post back and we'll work through it with you.

    Ps. With Outlook 2010 they changed the location of the .pst file. It should now be stored in the My Documents>Outlook Files location.

    Thanks, ashleyg. The link you sent didn't work for me. When I reached step 7, "Click the OK button," there was no OK button to click on. Instead, there was an Open button. Clicking it didn't get me to where I was supposed to be. (I went through this process twice, with the same result.)

    So I put my old outlook.pst file in the Documents>Outlook Files folder, where it showed up as Archive Folders along with an Outlook Data Folder that must have gotten created automatically somewhere along the way. Then I went into Account Settings, where both folders were listed on the Data tab, and selected Archive Folders as the default. I also changed the name to Active Folders. When I manually configured my e-mail protocols, I chose that location for my PST file, and things are now working properly. Should I mark this question as solved, even though I didn't solve it the way I was supposed to?

    GEWB here...I wrote the tutorial linked in this thread. I checked to be sure the steps were correct and they are (just reconfirmed) so not sure what happened for you.

    However, it sounds like the end result is your issue was solved. I recommend marking this topic as SOLVED.

    Hi Joan, happy you have it resolved. Looks like the tutorial helped steer you in the right direction even though you noted some differences on your system. Yes mark it closed if your issue is resolved.
