Using windows easy transfer from a seperate drive not computer

Hope you guys can help, Have upgraded to win 7 home from vista on a laptop. I copied the old vista installation to an external hard drive, with a linux pen drive so was wonder if there was a way to do a transfer from the external hard drive to the new windows install.

If you have a External HD, you could copy & paste your data.
Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

than copy & paste your data to new HD.

Have tried that, but for some reason the there is a problem copying the ntuser data file if I try to log on the group policy client service failed the logon access is denied. Can I transfer the ntuser data file directly from vista to win 7?
